George H.W. Bush served as a naval aviator during World War II and was one of the youngest pilots in the Navy at the time. He flew torpedo bombers in the Pacific Theater and was shot down over the Bonin Islands in 1944, earning the Distinguished Flying Cross. After the war, Bush moved to Midland, Texas in 1948 to enter the oil business. He went on to serve as the 41st President of the United States. His legacy in Midland remains strong, with the Bush Childhood Home preserved as a museum.
