We're opening America 250 in Midland the way we want the whole day to feel; together, downtown, with coffee in hand and music in the air. Saturday, June 20, the Midland Downtown Farmers Market becomes our citywide starting line. Sibley is usually closed on Saturdays. But not this time. The museum scientist will lead tours of the new exhibit "Surviving the Ice Age of Texas", the trails will be open, and the prairie will look exactly the way it has for centuries, which is the whole point.

A full day of art, history, and science under one roof. See GIANT by Ken Womack - 23 monumental sculptures filling the gallery - explore the Texas Backyard exhibit in the Children's Museum, and catch Blakemore Planetarium dome shows at 12PM, 2PM, and 4 PM. History fans: the Turner Mansion guided tour at 2 PM is $20 and worth every dollar. Free admission 4PM - 5PM - bring the whole family for the final hour.

The Downtown Library is a public art gallery hiding in plain sight. Walk through Calina Mishay's Imagination Mural, Rae Ripple's "Into the Sun" metal sculpture, and Peter Himmelberg and Tom Ryan's "In The New World." Inside, reading and literacy activities invite families to celebrate America 250 through books, story prompts, and take-home reading lists. Don't miss the Petroleum Collection - the people, industry, and innovation that built the Permian Basin.

TWO SEPARATE CREATIVE OPPORTUNITIES, ONE OPEN STUDIO, NO EXPERIENCE REQUIRED, AGES 1-101 IN A FAMILY-FRIENDLY ENVIRONMENT!! Help us reach our goal of painting 250 unique patriotic canvases to be gifted to the City of Midland for their July 4th salute to America's 250th birthday! Then...add yourself (literally) to "The Faces of Midland" - a giant community canvas prepared for you to insert your own caricature. By the end of the day, this canvas will be a reflection of this fun, creative, patriotic effort and all those who participated. Step inside the Arts Council of Midland and into our permanent art collection, and enjoy a gallery tour of Scarborough-Linebery House every hour. These works trace artistic expression and cultural heritage from Texas, the United States, and international artists are on display. Outside, the FMH Foundation Sculpture Garden turns into a children's scavenger hunt - public art, fresh air, and a stamp in the passport. A natural first stop if you're starting from downtown.

A PBS Kids program featuring George Washington and Abigail Adams, on the big screen, with snacks and hands-on activities. Built for the under-10s but everyone's welcome - especially the grown-ups who grew up on PBS.

Living in America - Art Market Presented by Cultura West and Midland Community Theatre A curated art market built around one prompt: what does it look like to live in America right now? Local artists fill the MCT lobby with the answer. Browse, buy, and meet the makers. Live music in the lobby, concessions will be open.

Midland's independent record store turns into a full-day cultural stop. Shop vinyl from noon then settle in for a high-energy night of punk, rock, and R&B with Ghostlux, Louie and the Liars, Horizon City, Ishkur, and IBNH starting at 6:30 PM. The sound of today's America - bold, diverse, independent, alive.

Lin-Manuel Miranda's musical recounting of the American Revolution and early U.S. government. View this musical masterpiece on the big screen under the indoor star field of the Wagner Noël PAC. Doors open at noon with food trucks on site, kids' activities in the lobby, free popcorn, and behind-the-scenes tours of the venue. UTPB Arts students will be popping up throughout the lobby.

Building on Midland's Juneteenth tradition, this year's celebration brings the color and energy of Mardi Gras to the heart of the community. Live music, parade energy, food, kids' activities, and joyful cultural expression - honoring emancipation, uplifting Black culture, and reminding us that America's story is strongest when it includes every voice.

A true Midland tradition meets America 250. Summer Mummers, the longest-running melodrama in the United States, delivers a lively show followed by the All-American Olio - fast-paced comedy, music, dance, and audience participation. Boo the villain. Cheer the hero. Throw the popcorn. (You'll understand when you get there.)
